CLIFF HARRIES CURRICULUM VITAE

 

Cliff Harries was born in Rustington, West Sussex, UK, on the 21st July 1952 to British parents. He was educated at Hayling County Primary School, then Churchers College in Petersfield. After a year studying English and Drama at Chichester College of Further Education, Cliff Harries became a management trainee with Debenhams Stores, and became involved with fashion as a career. He then spent time with Air France, by day a commercial agent, by night a dealer in jewellery imported from Morocco and sold in London's Camden Lock Market.

After a spell as a buyer for the family retail business, he started his own business in design in the UK in 1979, where he stayed until 2007.

Meanwhile, he studied part-time, initially for a BsC in Urban Estate Management, the degree awarded by Reading University, then from 2005-2006 at Central St Martins College of Art & Design in London, where he took an MA in Design, specialising in the future of Mauritian design. This work was awarded a Distinction.

Cliff Harries moved to Mauritius in 2008, where he continues his work developing a distinct Mauritian design identity.
